Atlas Energy Solutions Posts Wider Loss After Sand Volume Drop

The company reported a $45.1 million net loss and $267.8 million of third-quarter revenue, then guided fourth-quarter Adjusted EBITDA to $40 million to $50 million.

Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (AESI) reported a $45.1 million net loss for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, as it held frac-sand prices rather than chase uneconomic bids and volumes slipped.

Revenue was $267.8 million, down from $293.2 million in the second quarter, reversing a 10.4% sequential increase in that prior period. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $30.3 million from $50.8 million, and the Adjusted EBITDA margin compressed to 11% from 17%. The net loss margin moved to (17%) from (9%).

Proppant sales volume declined to 5.4 million tons from 5.6 million tons. The average sales price was approximately $16.93 a ton. Product revenue decreased to $97.9 million from $103.5 million. Service revenue fell to $140.8 million from $162.7 million. Rental revenue rose to $29.1 million from $27.0 million.

Sand & Logistics revenue fell to $235.2 million from $263.9 million. Adjusted gross margin in that segment compressed to 13% from 20%, and the segment posted a $10.1 million gross loss versus $12.6 million of gross profit in the second quarter.

Power revenue increased to $32.6 million from $29.3 million, with Power adjusted gross margin at 67% versus 65%.

Costs of sales excluding depreciation, depletion and accretion were $215.5 million, including $72.1 million in proppant plant and logistics operating costs, $128.7 million of service costs, $8.8 million in rental costs and $3.8 million in royalties. Logistics operating costs included $1.4 million tied to the cessation of operations in a particular region. Selling, general and administrative expenses were $38.8 million.

Net cash from operating activities swung to $23.4 million of inflow from a $553 thousand outflow in the second quarter. Adjusted Free Cash Flow declined to $25.3 million from $38.3 million, with the Adjusted Free Cash Flow margin at 9% versus 13%. Growth capital expenditures were $181.9 million versus $133.6 million in the second quarter; maintenance capital expenditures fell to $5.0 million from $12.6 million.

President and CEO John Turner said the company made a deliberate choice to hold the line on pricing rather than chase uneconomic bids, and that, as expected, that reduced third-quarter sales volumes. He said the commercial team has since backfilled those volumes for the fourth quarter and that, with line of sight to more than 23 million allocated tons for 2027, the company expects sequential improvement across all of its business lines during the fourth quarter.

Atlas announced two Cost Reimbursement Agreements with a leading frontier AI lab covering balance-of-plant equipment and an incremental 283 megawatts to enable two significant data center projects. Subsequent to quarter end it completed a $424 million senior secured bridge facility provided by Goldman Sachs and Barclays. As of October 23, 2026, estimated total liquidity was $499.4 million, comprising $152.2 million of cash and cash equivalents, $252.8 million of availability under the bridge facility designated for certain purchase obligations and $94.4 million of availability under the 2023 ABL Credit Facility. At September 30, total liquidity was $116.7 million, including $22.3 million in cash and cash equivalents.

Turner said the CRAs and the bridge facility have significantly reduced near-term financing and supply-chain risk on equipment for the two data center projects under negotiation. He said the first behind-the-meter project in Socorro, Texas, remains on track to come online at the end of the first quarter of next year.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, Atlas expects Adjusted EBITDA in the range of $40 million to $50 million and said it expects sequential improvement in every segment of the business.
