Richtech Books $9.5 Million Software Impairment After AI Shift

Gross margin reached 58.4% on $1.4 million of third-quarter revenue as the robotics company wrote off legacy software.

Richtech Robotics (RR) recorded a $9.5 million non-cash impairment of software-related intangible assets in the three months ended June 30, 2026, after completing an “AI Across All” rebuild of its platforms.

The robotics company launched the transformation in January 2026 to move operations, software, and technology infrastructure to an AI-native architecture. It completed the redevelopment and deployment of substantially all affected platforms by June 30, 2026, and concluded the remaining carrying value of those legacy assets would no longer provide economic benefit beyond that date. The charge did not affect operating cash flows.

Revenue was $1.4 million, up 16.7% from $1.2 million a year earlier. Sequential sales slipped from $1.5 million in the three months ended March 31, 2026.

Product sales were $264 thousand, reversing a 52.3% year-over-year decline in the prior quarter. Event services were $627 thousand. The event-services dip reflected scheduling timing rather than a change in underlying demand. Robots-as-a-Service revenue was $394 thousand, after a 246.7% year-over-year increase to $371 thousand in the prior quarter. Others contributed $88 thousand.

Gross profit was $802 thousand, with a gross margin of approximately 58.4%. Cost of revenue was $571 thousand. The margin improvement reflected a larger contribution from RaaS and event services, improved operational efficiency, and better cost absorption as volumes increased.

Operating expenses were $14.1 million. Research and development was $950 thousand. Sales and marketing was $602 thousand, tied to trade shows and events. General and administrative was $3.0 million, attributed to expanded facility operations, utilities, information technology, and a decision to optimize the facility footprint. Loss from operations was $13.3 million.

Investment income was $3.1 million, reflecting higher average invested cash balances and higher interest rates. The company recognized a $177 thousand gain from the change in fair value of warrant liabilities. Net loss attributable to Richtech was $10.0 million.

Cash and cash equivalents and short-term investments were $339.6 million as of June 30, 2026. For the nine months ended June 30, 2026, net cash used in operating activities was $3.6 million. Financing provided $113.0 million, including $110.3 million from ordinary-share issuance and $9.8 million from warrant exercises. The company invested $21.7 million in property and equipment, including a Las Vegas facility that closed on May 29, 2026.

Alphamax Management LLC, the wholly owned hospitality subsidiary, operates one restaurant in Georgia and a storefront in Las Vegas. A new Clouffee and Tea location in the San Francisco Financial District commenced operations in August 2026.

General and administrative expenses are expected to trend upward as the company invests in compliance infrastructure, audit overhead, internal-control remediation around ASC 606 and ASC 842, and D&O coverage.
