Emera Net Income Drops to 124 Million for Second Quarter
The energy and services company reported a net income of 124 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026, compared to 154 million in the prior year
Emera Incorporated (EMA), an energy and services company that invests in electricity and gas transmission and distribution, reported a net income of 124 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026. This followed a net income of 154 million for the same period in 2025.
Total operating revenues for the second quarter rose to 2,011 million from 1,988 million in the prior year. Regulated electric revenues increased to 1,773 million from 1,738 million, and regulated gas revenues rose to 369 million from 351 million. Non-regulated revenues fell to 131 million from 101 million.
Operating expenses for the quarter were 1,657 million, down from 1,693 million in the prior year. The company reported regulated fuel for generation and purchased power expenses of 539 million, compared to 531 million in 2025. Regulated cost of natural gas fell to 59 million from 73 million.
Income from operations for the three months ended June 30, 2026, was 354 million, up from 295 million in the prior year. However, net income attributable to common shareholders fell to 105 million from 135 million. Diluted earnings per common share were 0.34 a share for the quarter, compared to 0.45 a share in the second quarter of 2025.
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, net income was 706 million, compared to 755 million for the same period in 2025. Net income attributable to common shareholders for the first half of the year was 667 million, down from 718 million. Diluted earnings per common share for the six-month period were 2.18 a share, compared to 2.41 a share in 2025.
Dividends per common share declared for the three months ended June 30, 2026, were 0.7325 a share, up from 0.7250 a share in the prior year. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, dividends per common share were 1.4650 a share, compared to 1.4500 a share in 2025.
The company issued common stock under its at-the-market program for 184 million during the first six months of 2026.
For the twelve months ended June 30, 2026, the company reported an earnings coverage ratio of 1.81. Consolidated income before interest and income tax for that period was 2,190 million, while interest requirements amounted to 1,098 million.
