Mettler-Toledo Raises 2026 Outlook After Asia Sales Rebound
Third-quarter sales reached $1.094 billion as Asia/Rest of World reported growth hit 16% and the company lifted full-year adjusted EPS to $47.70–$47.90.
Mettler-Toledo International Inc. (MTD) posted third-quarter sales of $1.094 billion, a 6% increase from a year earlier, as reported sales growth accelerated from the 4% pace of the second quarter.
The global supplier of precision instruments and services said local currency sales also rose 6%. Adjusted earnings were $12.57 a share, up 13% from $11.15 a year earlier. Reported diluted EPS was $12.29, compared with $10.57.
President and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Kaltenbach said the company achieved relatively broad-based growth across the portfolio while capitalizing on improving market demand, with performance particularly strong in Asia/Rest of World. He said improved sales volume and execution of strategic initiatives produced another quarter of robust growth in adjusted EPS.
The regional mix shifted from the prior quarter. Reported sales rose 3% in the Americas and 16% in Asia/Rest of World, after a 3% decline in the Americas and 12% growth in Asia/Rest of World in the second quarter. Europe was flat. In local currency, sales increased 3% in the Americas, 2% in Europe, and 14% in Asia/Rest of World. Organic local currency net sales, excluding acquisitions and one-time tariff refunds, increased 6%, including 3% in the Americas and 13% in Asia/Rest of World.
Adjusted operating profit was $333.5 million, up 8% from $309.9 million a year earlier, and equaled 30.5% of sales, versus 30.1%. Gross profit was 59.8% of sales, compared with 59.2%. Earnings before taxes were $300.2 million. Restructuring charges were $3.9 million.
Management raised its outlook. It now anticipates local currency sales for the fourth quarter of 2026 will increase approximately 5%. Fourth-quarter adjusted EPS is forecast at $14.84 to $15.04, an 11% to 13% growth rate.
For the full year 2026, management anticipates local currency sales will increase approximately 5%, excluding the impact of tariff refunds to customers, and adjusted EPS in the range of $47.70 to $47.90, representing growth of approximately 12%. That compares with previous full-year adjusted EPS guidance of $47.15 to $47.50. The company cautioned that market conditions are uncertain and could change quickly.
The company also introduced 2027 guidance of approximately 5% local currency sales growth and adjusted EPS of $52.50 to $53.50, representing growth of approximately 10% to 12%. Kaltenbach said the company continues to benefit from investments that have strengthened its competitive position, citing accelerated innovation, expanded digital capabilities, the Spinnaker sales and marketing program, and a more resilient global supply chain.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, reported sales increased 6% to $3.069 billion. Local currency sales increased 5% before a one-time tariff refund to customers in the second quarter, or 4% before acquisitions. Adjusted EPS for the nine months was $32.91, up 12% from $29.41. Non-GAAP results for the period excluded a one-time $52 million benefit from IEEPA tariff refunds that benefited cost of sales and a one-time $28 million related refund to customers that reduced net sales.
