Caribou Expects Cash, Cash Equivalents and Marketable Securities to Fund Plan Through 2027
Cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities were $113.8 million as of June 30, 2026, after a $24.3 million net loss.
Caribou Biosciences, Inc. (CRBU), a clinical-stage CRISPR genome-editing biopharmaceutical company, said it expects cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities of $113.8 million as of June 30, 2026, to fund its current operating plan, including CB-011 dose expansion and certain start-up activities for its planned ANTLER-3 pivotal phase 3 trial for vispa-cel, to the end of 2027.
The company is exploring multiple options to fully fund the planned ANTLER-3 trial. Cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities had been $142.8 million as of December 31, 2025.
GAAP net loss was $24.3 million, or $0.24 a share, for the three months ended June 30, 2026, versus $54.1 million, or $0.58 a share, a year earlier, a period that included $21.3 million of non-cash impairment charges. Licensing and other third-party revenue was $1.5 million in the quarter.
Research and development expenses were $18.9 million, down from $27.7 million a year earlier. The decline reflected lower external contract manufacturing and contract research organization activity, the April 2025 workforce reduction and strategic pipeline prioritization, facilities and allocated expenses, and license, sublicensing, and milestone items. General and administrative expenses were $7.9 million, down from $10.4 million, a decline tied to personnel costs from the same April 2025 reduction, lower legal expenses and other service-related expenses, and facilities and allocated costs.
In June, long-term follow-up from the ANTLER phase 1 trial was presented at the 2026 European Hematology Association annual meeting. Among 27 second-line large B cell lymphoma patients who received a single dose of 80 million optimized vispa-cel CAR-T cells, the overall response rate was 82%, the complete response rate was 67%, and median progression-free survival was 17.1 months. That subgroup best represents the regimen and patient population for ANTLER-3, which is expected to enroll about 250 CD19-naïve 2L LBCL patients who are not eligible for transplant and not candidates or not eligible for autologous CAR-T cell therapy based on access challenges or medical criteria, including the urgent need for therapy.
President and CEO Rachel Haurwitz said the EHA data continue to show that a single dose of vispa-cel can produce durable responses on par with autologous CAR-T therapies in second-line LBCL. The company cautioned that it has not conducted head-to-head trials comparing vispa-cel with those therapies and that cross-trial results may not be comparable.
In its August 13, 2026, update, Caribou reported that longer follow-up from CaMMouflage on 12 BCMA-naïve multiple myeloma patients treated with the recommended dose for expansion of 450 million CB-011 CAR-T cells showed a 92% overall response rate, an 83% complete response or stringent complete response rate, 91% minimal residual disease negativity in 10 of 11 evaluable patients, and 50% of patients in complete response or better at 15 months. The company also described a 71-year-old patient who had received eight prior lines, including an approved autologous CAR-T, and who achieved a complete response at day 28 after a single 450-million-cell dose, with the response remaining ongoing as of a May 26, 2026, cutoff.
Caribou is enrolling both BCMA-naïve and prior BCMA therapy-exposed patients in CaMMouflage dose expansion. In the second half of 2026 it expects to report initial safety and efficacy from dose expansion on more than 15 patients with at least three months of follow-up.
Vispa-cel carries RMAT, Fast Track, and Orphan Drug designations for B-NHL; CB-011 holds the same designations for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
