Abivax’s obefazimod nears a planned US filing after Phase 3 readouts

July financing supports the developer’s next steps, but its year-end application target and cash-runway forecast remain plans.

Obefazimod, formerly ABX464, is Abivax's oral investigational compound intended to enhance miR-124 expression. Its ulcerative-colitis program has moved through induction and maintenance testing. The company reported positive Phase 3 induction findings in 2025 and maintenance findings in June 2026; a planned application is not an approval.

ABTECT-1 and ABTECT-2 compared once-daily oral treatment with placebo in moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. Their principal induction assessment was clinical remission at eight weeks. The separate maintenance record assesses remission at week 44 and retains longer-term safety follow-up. The induction studies are completed in the retrieved records; the maintenance study is active but not recruiting.

Results appearing in a registry in September are a disclosure event, not the first evidence that the studies succeeded. A useful history preserves the earlier company readouts and later registry posting as distinct events. The next disclosed regulatory objective is an application planned by year-end 2026, rather than an application already filed.

Abivax's financing matters because this program is central to a company without the commercial cash-generation base of a large pharmaceutical group. Neither financing nor positive sponsor readouts removes regulatory, manufacturing or longer-term safety uncertainty.

At June 30, Abivax held €388.0 million cash and €14.4 million short-term investments. First-half operating cash use was €102.5 million versus €66.6 million a year earlier; net loss was €165.9 million. The combined borrowings/notes/derivatives line was €1.2 million. July net offering proceeds of €767.1 million are subsequent financing, not June cash. In its September 21 update, management forecast a cash runway into Q4 2029. That forecast is not a guarantee or an independently calculated runway.
