Suncor Energy Net Earnings Rise to 3.73 Billion

The integrated energy company reported net earnings of 3.17 a share for the second quarter of 2026

Suncor Energy Inc. (SU), Canada’s leading integrated energy company, reported net earnings of 3.73 billion for the second quarter of 2026. This represents an increase from the 1.13 billion reported in the same period in 2025. Net earnings for the three months ended June 30 were 3.17 a share.

Total operating revenues, net of royalties, rose to 17.49 billion in the second quarter, up from 11.99 billion in the prior-year period. The Oil Sands Production segment drove a significant portion of this growth, reporting operating revenues net of royalties of 7.82 billion, compared to 5.84 billion in the second quarter of 2025. The Refining and Marketing segment also saw an increase in operating revenues net of royalties, which rose to 856 million from 503 million.

Expenses for the second quarter totaled 12.55 billion, compared to 10.46 billion in the previous year. Within the Oil Sands Production segment, operating, selling, and general expenses rose to 2.55 billion from 2.35 billion. The company's total depreciation, depletion, and amortization remained steady at 1.71 billion.

Cash flow from operating activities increased to 5.65 billion for the quarter, compared to 2.91 billion in the second quarter of 2025. For the first six months of 2026, cash flow provided by operating activities reached 8.09 billion, up from 5.07 billion in the same period last year.

Suncor reduced its capital expenditures to 1.34 billion in the second quarter, down from 1.70 billion in the prior-year period. For the first half of 2026, capital expenditures totaled 2.46 billion, compared to 2.85 billion for the first half of 2025.

Financing activities included the repurchase of 1.05 billion in common shares during the second quarter, an increase from the 750 million repurchased in the same period in 2025. The company paid 706 million in dividends on common shares during the quarter.

As of June 30, 2026, Suncor held 5.37 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Total assets were 94.74 billion, compared to 89.91 billion at the end of 2025. Total liabilities and shareholders’ equity stood at 94.74 billion.
