Axon to Invest $1.2 Billion in Skydio
The public-safety technology company is taking a major stake in the drone maker and becoming its exclusive U.S. and Canada public-safety distributor.
Axon Enterprise, Inc. (AXON) said it is investing $1.2 billion in Skydio, taking a major stake in the drone maker and becoming its exclusive public-safety distributor in the United States and Canada.
The company said the arrangement is intended to cement leadership in Drone as First Responder by pairing a large equity position with a distribution franchise that covers both North American public-safety markets.
Axon has already been building a counter-drone and platform-solutions franchise. In the second quarter of 2026, Platform Solutions revenue grew 123% year over year to $150 million, and Dedrone revenue surpassed $100 million. In the first quarter of 2026, counter-drone product revenue was up more than 300% year over year. The Skydio stake and exclusive distribution rights sit against that existing counter-drone and platform-solutions footprint.
The company has also been scaling its broader public-safety ecosystem. Second-quarter 2026 revenue was $904 million, up 35% year over year, with annual recurring revenue at $1.6 billion and net revenue retention of 126%. Axon now expects full-year revenue growth of approximately 30%, after reducing expectations for Federal Dedrone deployments.
The $1.2 billion Skydio investment is an equity stake rather than a full acquisition; the release did not specify an exchange ratio, cash-per-share price, or a disclosed premium. Axon said it will distribute Skydio drones exclusively to public-safety customers in the United States and Canada, a role the company framed as central to its Drone as First Responder strategy.
Axon has previously used acquisitions to add emergency-response and AI capabilities, including Prepared, and has introduced products such as Axon Vehicle Intelligence, Axon Assistant, Axon Body Mini and Axon 911. The Skydio stake and distribution rights extend that product and channel expansion into autonomous aerial response for public-safety agencies.
The company said the investment and exclusive distribution agreement are designed to lock in Skydio’s drone technology as the aerial layer of Axon’s public-safety platform across the United States and Canada.
