Talen Introduces 2027 Adjusted EBITDA Outlook

Adjusted EBITDA reached $669 million in the third quarter as the company introduced 2027 guidance of $2.50 billion to $2.85 billion.

Talen Energy Corporation (TLN), a leading independent power producer, reported third-quarter 2026 Adjusted EBITDA of $669 million, up from $374 million in the second quarter after the June close of the Cornerstone Acquisition and $473 million in the first quarter.

The company also introduced 2027 Adjusted EBITDA guidance of $2.50 billion to $2.85 billion and Adjusted Free Cash Flow guidance of $1.50 billion to $1.75 billion, which it said represents approximately 26% and 27% growth at the midpoints versus 2026 guidance.

Chief Executive Officer Mac McFarland said the 2027 outlook reflects strong PJM fundamentals and a full year of contributions from recently acquired assets. With nine months behind it, Talen reaffirmed the midpoint and narrowed the range of 2026 guidance.

GAAP net income attributable to stockholders was $138 million, or $2.88 a share on a diluted basis, versus a $92 million loss in the second quarter and $63 million in the first quarter. Adjusted Free Cash Flow was $433 million.

Compared with the year-ago quarter, the company said Adjusted EBITDA increased $306 million primarily due to the contribution of acquired generation facilities, higher settled power prices and generation volumes net of realized hedges, and higher capacity revenues. Energy and other revenues were $1.187 billion, up from $604 million a year earlier. Capacity revenues were $323 million, versus $166 million a year earlier.

Total generation was 23.9 terawatt-hours, up from 14.1 terawatt-hours in the second quarter and 15.6 terawatt-hours in the first quarter. Capacity factor was 75.4%.

Operating income was $255 million, down from $263 million a year earlier, as unrealized derivative losses of $183 million reversed a $42 million gain a year earlier. Interest expense and other finance charges were $148 million, which the company tied to acquisition financings.

Talen reaffirmed 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance of $2.05 billion to $2.20 billion and Adjusted Free Cash Flow of $1.225 billion to $1.325 billion after having raised those ranges in the second-quarter release to $2.025 billion to $2.225 billion and $1.20 billion to $1.35 billion.

The board upsized the share-repurchase program from $1.5 billion to $3.0 billion through December 31, 2028, and launched a $1.5 billion accelerated share repurchase. On October 1, 2026, Talen received and retired about 3.8 million shares equal to 80% of the ASR, funded with $1.3 billion of net proceeds from a PJM capacity monetization and cash on hand. The final settlement is expected no later than the first quarter of 2027. During the third quarter, the company also repurchased 600,000 shares for about $204 million, separate from the ASR. Upon completion of the ASR at current prices, Talen said it will have repurchased approximately 19.5 million shares for about $4.0 billion since the start of 2024, with $1.5 billion remaining under the SRP through year-end 2028. President Terry Nutt said share repurchases remain the benchmark against which the company evaluates capital allocation.

On October 1, 2026, Talen closed a capacity monetization selling rights to about $1.5 billion of future PJM capacity cash flows for the 2027/2028 and 2028/2029 capacity years.

The company said it is focused on maintaining a net leverage target of 3.5 times net debt-to-Adjusted EBITDA. As of October 30, 2026, total available liquidity was about $1.6 billion, comprising $220 million of unrestricted cash and $1.4 billion of capacity under the revolving credit facility.

As of September 30, 2026, including the Nuclear Production Tax Credit, Talen had hedged about 80% of expected generation for October through December 2026, about 70% for 2027 and about 35% for 2028. The company said its hedging program supports cash-flow stability while maintaining upside optionality.
