Acadian's Net Inflows Slow After a Record First Quarter

The systematic manager posted $2.6 billion of third-quarter net inflows and record management fees of $187.8 million, lifting AUM to $239.6 billion.

Acadian Asset Management Inc. (AAMI) recorded $2.6 billion of net client cash inflows in the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, a 4% annualized organic growth rate that marked the eleventh consecutive quarter of positive flows.

The pace slowed from $4.3 billion, or 9% annualized organic growth, in the second quarter, after a record $21.4 billion of inflows in the first quarter. Year-to-date net inflows through the third quarter were $28.3 billion, or 21% annualized organic growth. Enhanced and Extension equity strategies continued to lead gross inflows, while client rebalancing drove the majority of outflows.

Assets under management ended the quarter at $239.6 billion, up from $232.7 billion at June 30, 2026. Average AUM was $236.4 billion and the ENI management fee rate was 32 basis points. The company said AUM growth reflected market appreciation and continued positive net flows.

U.S. GAAP revenue rose 32.6% from a year earlier to $191.2 million. Management fees reached a record $187.8 million, up 38% year over year, which the company said reflected higher average AUM. Performance fees were $1.3 million.

Net income attributable to controlling interests was $35.5 million, up 135% from $15.1 million a year earlier, and diluted earnings were $1.00 a share, up 138%. The company said the increase was driven by higher management fees, partially offset by non-cash expenses representing changes in the value of Acadian LLC equity and profit interests.

Economic net income, the non-GAAP measure used by management, was $48.3 million, up 78% from $27.2 million a year earlier, and ENI diluted earnings were a record $1.36 a share, up 79%. ENI revenue was $189.1 million. Adjusted EBITDA was $75.1 million.

The ENI operating margin expanded 9.4 percentage points year over year to 42.6%, from 33.2%. The company said the expansion was driven primarily by higher recurring management fees. The operating-expense ratio fell 6.2 percentage points to 37.1%, and the variable-compensation ratio decreased 8.9 percentage points to 32.6%. ENI operating expenses rose 18% year over year, which the company attributed primarily to higher general and administrative expenses, including continued investment in technology and infrastructure, AUM-driven servicing costs, and higher compensation. Variable compensation rose 21%.

The Acadian LLC key employee distribution ratio increased to 14.2% from 11.5% a year earlier, with distributions of $11.4 million versus $5.2 million. The company said the ratio rose because management-fee profit exceeded contractual thresholds and that, given current levels of profits after variable compensation, contractual allocations would imply a 2026 full-year distribution ratio of 12% to 14%. Full-year 2026 variable-compensation ratio is expected to be 34% to 38%, informed by the level and timing of performance fees and deferred compensation.

Cash and cash equivalents were $150.0 million at September 30, 2026. The term loan remained at $200.0 million with no revolving-credit balance. The leverage ratio declined to 0.7 times and net leverage to 0.2 times.

The board declared a quarterly interim dividend of $0.10 a share, payable December 23, 2026. No shares were repurchased in the third quarter.
