Atomera Narrows Loss and Adds Third GAA Customer

The semiconductor materials licensor posted a $6.0 million net loss, or $0.15 a share, in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, and recorded no revenue.

Atomera Incorporated (ATOM), a semiconductor materials and technology licensing company, reported a net loss of $6.0 million, or $0.15 a share, for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, compared with a $6.3 million loss, or $0.17 a share, in the second quarter.

Revenue was zero in the third quarter, after $158 thousand in the second quarter. Adjusted EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure, was a loss of $4.6 million.

President and CEO Scott Bibaud said the company expanded customer engagements in advanced logic and memory, where AI continues to drive demand for higher transistor performance. He said nano-scale diffusion-blocking work for gate-all-around transistors generated interest with GAA foundries and with designers of next-generation memory solutions.

The company said it increased its gate-all-around engagement count to three customers. In its presentation, Atomera said it was engaged with three of the four GAA customers and that MST in GAA structures was on the path to becoming a standard feature. It also said it demonstrated a simpler, lower-cost approach to enable next-generation DRAM transistors with MST.

Research and development expense rose to $3.65 million from $3.29 million in the second quarter. General and administrative expense fell to $2.34 million from $3.17 million. Selling and marketing expense declined to $343 thousand from $437 thousand. Total operating expenses were $6.33 million.

Atomera said it signed a joint development agreement with IQE, a supplier of compound semiconductor wafers, to bring high-performance, cost-effective RF GaN to market. Under the arrangement described in the presentation, IQE contributes GaN epitaxy and volume wafer manufacturing, while Atomera contributes MST-enabled silicon substrates, producing MST GaN-on-silicon wafers for foundry and IDM customers. Bibaud said the company took an important step toward commercializing its GaN-on-silicon solutions with the agreement.

Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments were $34.8 million as of Sept. 30, 2026, down from $38.4 million as of June 30, 2026. Shares outstanding totaled 39.1 million. The company had no debt.

Atomera said it develops Mears Silicon Technology, which it describes as increasing performance and power efficiency in semiconductor transistors and implementable with equipment already deployed in manufacturing facilities. The company cautions that it has recognized only minimal engineering services and licensing revenues to date and remains subject to the risks of an early-stage enterprise, including the possibility that licensees or joint-development customers do not advance to royalty-based manufacturing licenses.
