CompX Security Products Sales Rise Year Over Year in Second Quarter

Second-quarter net sales reached $43.6 million and operating income $8.9 million as both reportable segments contributed to higher sales and gross margin.

CompX International Inc. (CIX) reported second-quarter 2026 net sales of $43.6 million, up from $40.3 million a year earlier, after a first-quarter print that had been essentially unchanged from the year-ago period.

The Dallas-based manufacturer of security products and recreational marine components said the year-over-year increase came from higher Security Products sales across healthcare, transportation, tool storage and distributor markets and higher Marine Components sales to the industrial market. That mix reversed the first-quarter pattern, when Marine Components industrial sales rose and Security Products sales were lower.

Operating income was $8.9 million, compared with $6.3 million a year earlier. Net income was $7.2 million, or $.59 a share, versus $5.5 million, or $.44 a share, in the year-ago quarter.

Gross margin expanded to $15.5 million from $12.9 million a year earlier, with cost of sales at $28.1 million. Selling, general and administrative expense held at $6.6 million. The company attributed the operating-income increase to higher sales and gross margin predominantly at Security Products and, to a lesser extent, Marine Components.

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, net sales were $84.2 million, compared with $80.6 million a year earlier. Operating income was $16.0 million, versus $12.2 million. Net income was $13.1 million, or $1.06 a share, compared with $10.6 million, or $.86 a share.

The first quarter had already shown a different mix: net sales of $40.6 million, operating income of $7.1 million and net income of $5.9 million, or $.48 a share. CompX then said first-quarter sales rose because of higher Marine Components industrial sales, partially offset by lower Security Products sales, and that operating income increased primarily on higher Security Products gross margin from a more favorable customer and product mix.

The second-quarter commentary put Security Products back at the center of both sales and margin. The company said second-quarter and year-to-date sales increased due to higher Security Products sales across a variety of markets including healthcare, transportation, tool storage and distributor markets and higher Marine Components sales to the industrial market. Operating income increased in the second quarter and for the first six months of 2026 compared with the same periods in 2025 due to higher sales and gross margin predominantly at Security Products and, to a lesser extent, Marine Components.

CompX operates from three U.S. locations and employed approximately 590 people as of the August 4 release, up from approximately 560 in the May 5 first-quarter release.

The board declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.30 a share on class A common stock, payable September 15, 2026 to stockholders of record at the close of business on September 3, 2026.
