Acumen Narrows Sabirnetug Phase 2 Readout to November

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities stood at $78.6 million as of September 30, 2026, down from $110.2 million at June 30.

Acumen Pharmaceuticals (ABOS), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutics that target toxic soluble amyloid beta oligomers for Alzheimer’s disease, said it expects to report topline results from its ALTITUDE-AD Phase 2 study of sabirnetug in November 2026, narrowing a prior “late 2026” expectation.

Chief Executive Officer Daniel O’Connell said the company continued readying for the readout and remains encouraged by the potential for sabirnetug to become a treatment of choice, with a differentiated benefit-risk profile driven by its attributes as an anti-AβO IgG2 monoclonal antibody.

ALTITUDE-AD is a three-arm Phase 2 study of 542 participants, with 180 per arm, comparing two intravenous doses of sabirnetug (35 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg every four weeks) against placebo over an 18-month double-blind period. Topline results are expected to include the iADRS, the primary efficacy endpoint, as well as CDR-SB, adverse-event rates including ARIA, and key biomarkers. Enrollment completed in March 2025.

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities totaled $78.6 million as of September 30, 2026, compared with $110.2 million as of June 30, 2026. The company said cash is expected to support current clinical and operational activities into early 2027.

Research and development expenses were $21.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, down from $22.0 million a year earlier. The company attributed the decrease primarily to lower manufacturing and materials costs and CRO costs associated with ALTITUDE-AD, partially offset by increased spending on the Enhanced Brain Delivery program. General and administrative expenses were $4.7 million.

Loss from operations was $25.8 million for the quarter, versus $26.5 million a year earlier, which the company tied to the lower R&D expenses. Net loss was $25.4 million, or $0.35 a share, compared with $26.5 million, or $0.44 a share, a year earlier. Weighted-average shares outstanding were 72.3 million.

The company is targeting an IND filing for a lead clinical candidate in its EBD program in mid-2027. In June 2026 it nominated ACU301 and ACU401 under its license with JCR Pharmaceuticals. O’Connell said the company continues IND-enabling activities and remains encouraged about the program’s potential as a next-generation Alzheimer’s treatment.

The condensed balance sheet showed cash and cash equivalents of $53.1 million and marketable securities of $25.5 million at September 30, 2026. Short-term debt was $20.4 million and long-term debt $5.9 million. Stockholders’ equity was $34.6 million. Common shares outstanding were 72.3 million.

For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, R&D expenses were $65.4 million and G&A expenses $14.1 million. Net cash used in operating activities was $68.9 million. Financing included $35.4 million of net proceeds from a private placement and $5.0 million of debt repayments.

Sabirnetug has FDA Fast Track designation for early Alzheimer’s disease. The company is also investigating a subcutaneous formulation using Halozyme’s ENHANZE technology.
