Lilly’s Foundayo brings oral GLP-1 treatment into the obesity market

Orforglipron received FDA approval in April 2026, adding an oral option alongside injectable medicines.

Orforglipron is no longer simply an investigational obesity entry. The FDA lists Foundayo's original approval on April 1, 2026. Its oral route makes it relevant to competition with injectable treatments, but route alone does not establish better efficacy, adherence or tolerability. LY3502970 is the development code retained in the trial history.

ATTAIN-1 evaluated daily oral orforglipron against placebo in adults with obesity or overweight. Its primary treatment-period endpoint measured weight change at 72 weeks. The record remains active but not recruiting in the snapshot collected for this account. That status is compatible with an approved medicine and ongoing follow-up; it is not a reason to classify the compound as unapproved.

The development story now needs to distinguish evidence supporting the original indication from subsequent studies and label changes. This overview does not rank the ATTAIN result against another trial's percentage, nor does it turn an oral formulation into a claim of superior safety. The retrieved FDA label is the appropriate source for approved population, dosing and warnings.

Lilly funds orforglipron within a much larger portfolio. No compound-specific committed budget or verified next regulatory milestone is established in this baseline.

Lilly reported $8.950 billion of cash and equivalents at June 30. Short-term borrowing and current debt totaled $7.050 billion, with $47.858 billion of long-term debt. First-half operating cash generation was $16.023 billion and net income $14.491 billion. Its investment portfolio includes venture and private investments, which should not all be added to cash as immediately available liquidity. The corporate cash-generation base supports a broad development and manufacturing program; the accounts do not allocate these balances to any individual compound discussed here.
