Ameresco reports record backlog as data center awards drive growth

The energy efficiency company reported second-quarter revenue of $515.5 million, a 9% increase from the prior year.

Ameresco (AMRC), the energy efficiency and infrastructure company, saw its total backlog climb to a record $6.73 billion in the second quarter of 2026, a 32% increase from a year earlier. The growth was led by the company's Power Infrastructure pillar, where the awarded backlog rose 65% to $4.4 billion.

New project awards reached a record $1.8 billion during the quarter. Data centers drove the majority of this activity, accounting for $1.2 billion of the new awards, while other key markets contributed $600 million.

Total revenue for the second quarter rose 9% year over year to $515.5 million. Growth occurred across all core business lines, with operations and maintenance revenue increasing 29% to $36.2 million and energy asset revenue growing 21% to $75.9 million. Project revenue rose 6% to $380.9 million.

Gross margin expanded to 17.7% in the second quarter, a meaningful improvement on both a sequential and year-over-year basis.

Ameresco reiterated its full-year 2026 guidance for revenue between $2.0 billion and $2.2 billion, adjusted EBITDA between $250 million and $270 million, and non-GAAP earnings per share between $1.15 and $1.35. The company had previously increased its 2026 EPS guidance on August 3, 2026.

The company announced that Chief Financial Officer Mark Chiplock resigned, effective September 25, 2026.
