Canton Strategic Records First Revenue From Network Operations

Canton Strategic reported $1.50 million in quarterly revenue, largely from locking Canton Coin for network participants, while digital-asset losses dominated its results.

Canton Strategic Holdings, Inc. (CNTN), a Canton Network investor and operator, recorded its first operating revenue in the quarter ended June 30, adding service income to its digital-asset treasury strategy. The milestone established a revenue-generating business alongside its coin holdings, although an unrealized loss on those holdings remained the largest expense in its quarterly results.

The new locking-as-a-service business supplied most of the revenue. Other revenue totaled $1.30 million, largely from the offering launched April 23. The service addressed network rules requiring Super Validators and Featured Applications to maintain locked Canton Coin balances to preserve their status and reward eligibility. Canton Strategic locked its own coins on customers’ behalf, allowing those participants to meet the requirement without sourcing the coins themselves.

Canton Strategic retained legal and beneficial ownership of the locked coins throughout each arrangement. Compensation took different forms: a stated interest rate, a share of the customer’s network rewards, or an equity grant earned over the contract term. The arrangements gave the company a way to earn revenue from coins it continued to own; reported revenue did not establish an equivalent amount of cash receipts.

Network validation contributed another $191,226. Active Super Validator minting began May 9, using an approved active weight of 0.5, which determined the company’s share of rewards. The revenue included a one-time catch-up mint of rewards accumulated in escrow since January 21. That catch-up component formed part of the initial reported result, alongside rewards earned after active minting began.

The operating businesses had yet to produce a profit. Canton Strategic reported a quarterly operating loss of $1.20 million and an unrealized digital-asset loss of $23.74 million. An income-tax benefit of $6.67 million partly offset those charges, leaving a total net loss of $19.25 million, including discontinued operations. The asset remeasurement therefore outweighed the scale of the newly established revenue streams.

On the company’s adjusted measure, the quarterly EBITDA loss narrowed to $820,449 from $1.13 million a year earlier. That measure excluded unrealized digital-asset gains and losses, taxes, and stock-based compensation, among other adjustments. Adjusted operating expenses were $2.63 million, leaving the initial revenue base short of covering that expense measure.

The balance sheet remained dominated by the coin treasury. At June 30, Canton Strategic held 3.71 billion Canton Coins with a fair value of $523.35 million against a reported cost basis of $584.06 million. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $37.24 million. Those balances placed the new operating activities alongside a substantially larger exposure to the token’s market value.

For the six months ended June 30, financing activities provided $91.25 million in net cash. Over that same six-month period, cash purchases of digital assets totaled $59.59 million, while operating activities used $9.87 million, including discontinued operations. The first-half cash flows showed continued capital raising and treasury investment during the period in which service revenue began.

After quarter-end, Canton Strategic sold its legacy biotechnology subsidiary, Gravitas Life Sciences, on July 17. Consideration consisted of an unsecured $3.5 million promissory note bearing 15% payment-in-kind interest, plus contingent development milestone payments. The disposal removed the legacy business, with the stated consideration taking the form of a note and contingent payments.
