Tango Pivots Pancreatic-Cancer Strategy After Combination Data
The drug combination produced a 92% objective response rate in evaluable pancreatic-cancer patients.
Tango Therapeutics (TNGX), a precision oncology company, shifted vopimetostat toward a front-line Phase 3 strategy after reporting clinical efficacy for the drug in combination with daraxonrasib.
The combination produced a 90% six-month progression-free survival rate in evaluable patients with MTAP-deleted, RAS-mutant pancreatic cancer. A quarter earlier, Tango had described early efficacy as encouraging and expected to report initial data later in 2026.
Tango began preparing a randomized Phase 3 trial of the combination in front-line disease, replacing its previous plan for a 2026 pivotal study of vopimetostat monotherapy in second-line pancreatic cancer. The company targeted completion of the new trial design in the second half of 2026.
The company also initiated discussions with regulators and Revolution Medicines about a registrational path for the combination. In the prior quarter, Tango had said it was reviewing vopimetostat’s registrational strategy.
Collaboration revenue fell to zero from $3.2 million a year earlier and remained unchanged from the first quarter after Tango recognized the remaining deferred revenue from its terminated Gilead research activities in 2025. The quarterly net loss widened to $55.3 million from $38.9 million, while the loss increased to $0.37 a share from $0.35 a share.
Research-and-development expense rose to $37.2 million from $32.8 million a year earlier as Tango advanced vopimetostat and TNG456, reversing the prior quarter’s year-over-year decline. General and administrative expense nearly doubled to $22.6 million, driven primarily by higher personnel costs, including share-based compensation.
Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities climbed to about $1.0 billion at June 30 from $379.8 million at the end of March. The balance funds its current operating plan, including pancreatic-cancer development and preparations for commercialization, expanding on its previous guidance for a runway into 2028.
Tango appointed its first chief commercialization officer to oversee launch readiness, medical affairs and commercial strategy, adding commercial infrastructure as vopimetostat moved toward late-stage development.
