Sensata Posts Third Straight Quarter of Accelerating Growth
Sensata Technologies Holding reported second-quarter revenue of $990.6 million, up 5.0% year over year and marking the fastest organic growth pace in a year of sequential acceleration.
Sensata Technologies Holding (ST) reported second-quarter revenue of $990.6 million, up 5.0% year over year and 4.4% organically, the sensor maker's strongest quarterly growth rate in a stretch that has steadily built since early 2025.
The quarter capped three consecutive periods of positive organic growth, a reversal from 2025 in which revenue fell 5.8% for the full year and organic sales contracted 1.0% in the first nine months. Growth accelerated from 2.6% year-over-year revenue growth in the first quarter and 1.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025, a trajectory that pushed profitability higher alongside the top line.
GAAP operating margin reached 16.7% in the quarter, up from 14.6% a year earlier and from 15.2% in the first quarter of 2026. That figure stood in sharp contrast to the fourth quarter of 2025, when operating margin was 10.9%, and to the third quarter of 2025, when a $259 million goodwill impairment drove an operating loss margin of -13.2%. Adjusted operating margin, which strips out one-time items, rose 50 basis points year over year to 19.5%, extending a sequential climb from 18.6% in the first quarter.
GAAP earnings per share came to $0.70, up 70.7% from $0.41 a year earlier, outpacing the 25.5% increase posted in the first quarter. The comparison benefited from a Q2 2025 base still depressed by divestiture-driven revenue declines. Adjusted EPS of $0.98 rose 12.6% year over year from $0.87, a faster growth rate than the first quarter's 10.3% gain and a marked shift from the third quarter of 2025, when adjusted EPS was flat year over year at $0.89.
Free cash flow conversion hit 130% in the quarter, up from 83% in the first quarter and 117% in the fourth quarter of 2025, though six-month conversion of 108% trailed the prior year's six-month cash generation on a higher comparison base.
Sensata used $400 million in cash to complete a tender offer retiring approximately $406 million of long-term debt during the quarter, a deleveraging step absent from any of the four prior quarterly releases. The move coincided with a pause in share repurchases: the company returned $17.5 million to shareholders in the quarter, entirely through its dividend, compared with $42.6 million in the first quarter and $37.7 million a year earlier, both of which included buybacks alongside the dividend.
Restructuring and other charges swung to a $1.7 million credit in the quarter, a reversal from the $16.3 million in restructuring-related charges recorded in the year-ago quarter and a further normalization from the $49.8 million charge tied to a customer's EV program cancellation in the fourth quarter of 2025.
For the third quarter, Sensata guided to revenue of $957 million to $987 million, implying 3% to 6% year-over-year growth, and adjusted EPS of $0.93 to $0.97, up 4% to 9%. The outlook tops the guidance issued a year earlier for the third quarter of 2025, which called for revenue of $900 million to $930 million and adjusted EPS of $0.81 to $0.87. The new guidance excludes expected payments from a customer tied to a program termination, a disclosure item not present in the company's four prior quarterly releases, and embeds an estimated $10 million tariff pass-through impact that would carry no net margin effect, down from a 30-basis-point drag in each of the two preceding quarters.
