Terrestrial Energy expands commercial pipeline via data center partnership

The nuclear energy developer reported a first-quarter net loss of $10.5 million.

Terrestrial Energy (IMSR), the developer of integral molten salt reactors, reported a net loss of $10.5 million for the first quarter of 2026.

The company focused on scaling its commercial footprint and advancing regulatory milestones during the period, though these efforts coincided with an increase in operational spending.

The net loss rose from $6.2 million in the previous quarter. The decline was driven by a $3.2 million increase in research and development costs and a $4.0 million increase in general and administrative expenses.

Cash burn increased by $1.8 million over the fourth quarter of 2025, totaling $7.9 million for the quarter after adjusting for one-time merger costs. Cash and investments decreased to $289.9 million as of March 31, 2026, from approximately $298 million at the end of December 2025.

Terrestrial Energy expanded its commercial pipeline by executing a Memorandum of Understanding with Riot Platforms, Inc.. The agreement seeks to co-locate IMSR plants with data centers to provide up to 4GW of nuclear power capacity.

On the regulatory front, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the Postulated Initiating Event methodology Topical Report. This followed the approval of the Principal Design Criteria Topical Report in September 2025.

In July 2026, the company appointed Kathryn McCarthy to its Board of Directors. McCarthy was brought on to provide expertise in commercial deployment and the execution of large-scale projects.
