Sector Funds Saw Their Largest Weekly Outflow Since March
Money left sector-specific equity funds while broad-market vehicles took in cash — a rotation, not a withdrawal.
Sector-specific equity funds recorded their largest weekly net outflow since March, while broad-market index vehicles took in cash over the same period.
Rotation, not exit
The two flows roughly offset. That pattern — money leaving concentrated sector bets and landing in diversified vehicles — usually shows up when conviction in a particular theme fades faster than conviction in equities generally.
Where it came from
Technology and energy sector funds accounted for most of the outflow. Financials funds took in money for a third straight week.
The caveat that matters
Weekly flow data is noisy and revises. One week of rotation is a data point; the third consecutive week into financials is closer to a trend.
