Sensient Raises Profit Guidance Again as Color Unit Surges
Sensient Technologies posted 36.4% diluted EPS growth in the second quarter and raised its full-year profit outlook for the second straight time.
Sensient Technologies (SXT) reported diluted earnings per share of $1.20 for the second quarter of 2026, up 36.4% from $0.88 a year earlier, and raised its full-year guidance for the second consecutive quarter. The flavors and colors maker's operating income climbed 32.9% to $76.7 million, extending a run of accelerating profit growth that stands in sharp contrast to a 9.1% operating-income decline in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The quarter capped a four-quarter re-acceleration in revenue growth, which rose 11.6% year over year to $462.1 million, up from 11.1% in the first quarter, 4.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 5.0% in the third quarter of 2025. The trend coincided with the wind-down of the company's Portfolio Optimization Plan, whose costs fell to zero in both the first and second quarters of 2026 after running as high as $6.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, removing a charge that had weighed on prior-year comparisons.
The Color segment drove the improvement. Revenue in the unit rose 20.6% to $216.1 million, an acceleration from 18.1% growth in the first quarter, while segment operating income climbed 40.1% to $54.5 million on strong volume and higher pricing across the group. Flavors & Extracts revenue grew a more modest 4.9% to $213.2 million, but the growth marked a clear rebound from year-over-year declines of 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 0.2% in the third quarter, when an atmospheric-river disruption to agricultural-ingredients harvesting cut fourth-quarter operating income by $2.1 million and added roughly $3 million in one-time charges. Asia Pacific revenue rose 11.3% to $47.6 million, reversing a 1.0% decline in the fourth quarter of 2025 on new sales wins and favorable pricing.
Adjusted EBITDA margin expanded 200 basis points to 21.3%, with the Color segment's margin up 320 basis points to 28.3% and Asia Pacific up 210 basis points to 24.4%. Part of that expansion was one-time: the company had $4.3 million in tariff refunds that added 200 basis points to Color's segment EBITDA margin and $0.5 million that added 30 basis points in Flavors & Extracts, items not present in prior-quarter releases.
Sensient raised its full-year 2026 GAAP diluted EPS guidance to a range of $4.10 to $4.20, up from $3.70 to $3.90 at the time of the first-quarter release, which itself had been raised from an initial $3.60 to $3.80 guide issued alongside fourth-quarter results. The company also lifted its local-currency adjusted EBITDA growth guidance to "mid-teen to high-teen" from "high single-digit to double-digit," following a prior increase from "mid-single-digit to double-digit" in the first quarter.
Capital expenditures nearly doubled to $67.5 million in the first half of 2026 from $38.0 million a year earlier, while operating cash flow declined to $34.8 million from $39.3 million over the same period. Total debt rose to $763.9 million from $736.4 million, but net debt to credit-adjusted EBITDA improved to 2.3 times from 2.4 times a year earlier as earnings growth outpaced the increase in borrowing. Corporate and other operating expenses rose $3.9 million on a local-currency adjusted basis, driven by higher performance-based compensation, a reversal from the fourth quarter of 2025, when the same expense line fell $0.3 million on lower compensation costs.
