Cracker Barrel to Sell Maple Street Biscuit Company Assets to Biscuit Belly
The divestiture is intended to sharpen the company's focus on its core brand and improve overall profitability.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (CBRL) completed an asset-purchase agreement to sell certain assets used in its Maple Street Biscuit Company (MSBC) business to Biscuit Belly, LLC. The transaction included the MSBC trademark and the assets associated with 35 MSBC locations.
Management framed the divestiture as a strategic move to streamline operations. "Divesting Maple Street sharpens our focus on the core Cracker Barrel brand and is expected to improve profitability," said Julie Masino, President and Chief Executive Officer.
The exit follows a period of volatility and contraction for the MSBC brand. The company had previously flagged the closure of 14 Maple Street units in its fiscal 2026 outlook. By the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2026, the company had 52 Maple Street Biscuit Company units in operation, down from 70 in the prior year's corresponding quarter.
This reduction in the MSBC footprint aligns with a broader pattern of store closures and reorganization. The company had previously excluded store closing costs associated with MSBC reorganization from its adjusted net income calculations to provide a clearer view of its financial results.
