Aviva operating profit rises to £2.2 billion

The insurer's group adjusted operating profit grew to £2,203 million from £1,767 million in the prior year.

Aviva Plc (AV.), the insurance provider, reported a group adjusted operating profit of £2,203 million for the year ending December 31, 2025, up from £1,767 million in 2024. This growth contributed to an operating profit attributable to ordinary shareholders of £1,600 million, compared to £1,288 million in the previous year.

The increase was driven primarily by the general insurance segment, which saw operating profit rise to £1,485 million from £996 million. Within this segment, UK & Ireland general insurance profit grew to £1,077 million from £708 million, while Canada general insurance profit increased to £408 million from £288 million. Other business units showed more modest growth, with Insurance, Wealth & Retirement reporting £1,078 million compared to £1,071 million, and Aviva Investors reporting £47 million compared to £40 million.

Financial performance was further supported by an increase in insurance revenue, which rose to £25,437 million from £20,747 million. The company also recorded an investment return of £32,932 million, up from £19,882 million in 2024. However, these gains were offset by a rise in other operating expenses to £2,627 million from £2,200 million.

Net profit for the year rose to £1,054 million from £705 million. Basic earnings per share increased to 26.9p from 23.6p.

Adjusting items before tax totaled £763 million, compared to £770 million in 2024. These items included £360 million in integration and restructuring costs, an increase from £217 million in the prior year. The company also recorded £111 million in amortisation of intangibles acquired in business combinations, up from £61 million.
